Dec 31, 2006 in Digg, Security

fingerAlthough this is the time to start planning resolutions, there’s much more fun to be had — and less guilt — by handing out end-of-the-year awards, in this case, several “Phickle Phishing Phinger Of Phate” trophies to the security-addled who have proved to be dumb as a bunch of monkeys.

Bourdais or not Bourdais? That is the question.

Dec 30, 2006 in Uncategorized

F1The facts:

Scuderia Toro Rosso has not yet revealed their 2007 drivers.

Sebastian Bourdais had an impressive test with them at Jerez.

Seabass and Gerhard Berger have both denied that he will leave Champ Car for F1 in 07.

Conclusion:

Dakar

desertIt’s almost Dakar time again. The 29th edition of the trek across southern Europe and Africa is set to begin on January 6th in Lisbon, Portugal. Two weeks and more than 7900 km later, the race will end up (for the few lucky enough to finish) in Dakar, Senegal.

To me, this is one of the most awesome spectacles in motorsports. There are 525 entries in three classes as well as support teams, officials, and press all traveling across some of the most inhospitable terrain on the planet. In all, the bivouac will number a couple of thousand people.

If you have never seen the Dakar, you really should check it out. There is nothing like seeing one of those trucks crashing over the sand dunes of the Sahara. And by truck, we aren’t talking about an F150. These things are huge Tatras, Kamaz, and the like. To see one of these lumbering beasts being thrashed around the desert is awesome.

The New Age of Oil: What Lies Below?

Dec 27, 2006 in Uncategorized

oilNo question, we have entered an era of inflated energy prices that is already producing a boom in new innovations, and a slowdown in consumption. How radical will these changes be? The answer depends largely on how much oil the earth really holds. But make no mistake: there’s plenty of it. This is a new oil age, not the end of oil as we know it.
